The Original Resident Evil: Code Veronica (2000)

Resident Evil: Code Veronica marked a significant evolution in the franchise, being the first mainline entry to move away from pre-rendered backgrounds to fully 3D environments. It continued the story of Claire Redfield, following her search for her brother Chris, and introduced new antagonists in the form of the twisted Ashford family.

Gameplay and Features

  • Fully 3D Environments: For the first time in the series, Code Veronica featured fully rendered 3D environments, allowing dynamic camera angles and greater visual depth.
  • Classic Survival Horror Gameplay: Retained fixed camera perspectives, tank controls, inventory management, and puzzle-solving from earlier games.
  • Dual Protagonists: Players controlled both Claire Redfield and her brother Chris, with the story switching between them partway through the game.
  • Expanded Storytelling: The game delved deeper into Umbrella Corporation’s history, the Ashford family’s role in bioweapon research, and the consequences of the T-virus outbreak.
  • Iconic Antagonists: Introduced Alfred and Alexia Ashford, two of the series’ most memorable villains, as well as a returning Albert Wesker with enhanced abilities.
  • Multiple Locations: Players explored diverse areas, including Rockfort Island and an Antarctic research base.

Chris eventually arrives to rescue Claire, leading to a climactic showdown with Alexia Ashford and Albert Wesker.
